Seven long years I have lived in this prison
My poor eyes have seen not much but this cell
The walls so close have broken my vision
And lately I've been wondering if I'm living in hell
Sometimes a bird would fly through the window
I'd put up a sheet to keep the bird in
Then I'd be happy if just for a short while
But it breaks my heart to hear the bird sing
For murder in the second they put me on death row
They'll put me to death though I'm an innocent man
They say innocent first until proven guilty
I say show me the proof but nobody can
Blades of grass cut through the concrete
I get to my knees and pull out a few
See myself as a child like another person
Running with my brother through the morning dew
If I make it out I'll enjoy every sunset
I'll laugh at the worst of everyones jokes
I'll smile when I catch my toe on the carpet
I'll forgive the musicians every wrong note
But if I must die let this be a lesson
My fate has been wrong too much in the past
They'll always be doubt let this be the reason
Get rid of my sentence let me be the last.
